Advanced summer school / workshop on multigrid methods

(June 19 - 24, 2000)

CCMA, Department of Mathematics, Penn State University

An advanced summer school/workshop on multigrid methods will be held in the Center for Computational Mathematics and Applications at Penn State during June 19-24, 2000. The principal speaker will be Professor Achi Brandt, and several other active multigrid researchers will also participate. This will be a small size summer school/workshop attended only by researchers who have considerable knowledge of multigrid methods. The emphasis of the summer school is on the application of multigrid methods to practical problems including Maxewell and Helmholz equations, Navier Stokes equations and ab-initio quantum physics/chemistry.

Principal speaker

  • Achi Brandt

Preliminary topics

  • Locality of high frequencies and systems of PDEs
  • Maxewell equations and Helmholz equations
  • Convection diffusion equations with recirculations
  • Eigenvalue problems: ab-initio quantum physics/chemistry
  • Algebraic multigrid methods
  • Full potential equations; Euler and Navier-Stokes equations
