Geometry and Physics of Crumpling

Upon examining a crumpled piece of paper, we find that it is made up
of nearly-planar or cylindrically curved regions interspersed with
line-like ridges and point-like peaks, with most of the
deformation and energy focused in these localized objects. I will
discuss the shape, response and stability of some of these localized
structures, and their role in crumpling.
